What is yoga therapy?
Yoga therapy is a practice that focuses both on physical, emotional and mental health. It considers your whole being as one and doesn't separate the mind from. the body Yoga therapy can be used as a specific treatment adapted to the patient who is experiencing challenges. The purpose of yoga therapy is to support the body's natural healing processes and promote a holistic approach to health.
Yoga therapy can i.a. be part of the treatment to treat or create an improvement in the patient for e.g. the following diseases: arthritis, chronic pain, asthma, anxiety, stress, depression, menstrual pain, constipation, rehabilitation after injuries, high blood pressure and much, much more.
The basic elements used in yoga therapy:
Asanas (yoga poses): Specific and carefully selected movements / exercises that focus on the patient's challenge. These can be exercises that strengthen and stretch the body as well as improve flexibility and balance.
Pranayama (breathing exercises): The breath is an important tool and this point uses techniques that help to regulate and improve the breathing, which i.a. can help with a wide range of mental and physical challenges. Correct breathing has a wide range of health benefits, including it can improve the oxygen supply to the body's cells and promote one's general health.
Meditation: We practice being present in the present, allowing ourselves to actually be in and feel our thoughts or simply to be/exist. Through meditation you can experience e.g. mental clarity, more presence as well as calmness and mindfulness. There are many different forms of meditation, both passive and active. Repeating the same mantra several times (either out loud or inside oneself) and "binding" one's thoughts to it can also be a beneficial meditation technique.
Relaxation: Among other things. yoga nidra, chakra relaxation, listening to calm natural music, relaxing in the sunshine, moonlight or surrounded by other natural elements are all good techniques to reduce tension and promote deep relaxation. Regular practice can improve sleep quality and reduce symptoms of stress.
Lifestyle feedback: A big part of yoga therapy is especially how we live our lives. It is primarily through diet, but also when and how much you eat, how much sleep you get and how you generally live your life. Reduce i.a. caffeine, processed foods, alcohol and sugar as much as possible, and preferably completely if possible for you. Based on yogic principles and modern nutritional science, these recommendations are designed to support healing and wellness.
Why try yoga therapy?
Benefits. of yoga theraphy:
Yoga therapy has a wide range of benefits, which can vary depending on the needs of the individual and the intensity of the practice. Here are some of the primary benefits to be gained:
Reduction of chronic pain: Many people who suffer from chronic pain, such as back pain or arthritis, find relief through yoga therapy. Asanas and pranayama can help strengthen weak areas, improve flexibility and reduce inflammation.
Improved mental health: Yoga therapy is known for its positive effects on mental health. Meditation and breathing exercises can reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression. They help create a sense of inner calm and balance.
Rehabilitation after injury: For those recovering from injuries or surgeries, yoga therapy can be a safe and effective way to regain strength, mobility and well-being.
Strenghtened immune system: Regular practice of yoga and breathing exercises can strengthen the immune system, improve blood circulation and promote the body's natural healing processes.
Improved sleep quality: Many people experience better sleep quality after incorporating yoga therapy into their daily routine. Relaxation exercises and meditation can help calm the mind and prepare the body for a deep, restorative sleep.
The uniqueness of yoga which also helps to separate yoga from i.a. pilates or gymnastics, are i.a. that in yoga it's not about how you look. But how to feel. You may have big muscles on the outside, but all of your organs and bodily systems can be overloaded or out of balance on the inside.
A great deal of responsibility lies with the patient. Yoga therapy is not a miracle pill or a wave of a magic wand. If you want to feel better through yoga therapy, it requires daily effort over a longer period, depending on the disease/injury/challenge being treated.
