What you'll learn
Bringing the yoga practice to the SUP boards requires some adjustment and knowledge compared to regular studio teaching.
Included in this training, you will learn about the following topics:
-
Being a good SUP Yoga instructor
How do you organize a class and communicate clearly, so everyone understands everything from necessary security precautions, to asana alignments and keeping everything in check? As a good SUP yoga instructor, you must be able to be both professional and clear in your communications and directions. You will also need to fulfill certain obligations and take responsibility for both people and gear.
-
Equipment expert
As the instructor, you must know the ins and outs of the equipment. You’ll get an in-depth understanding to each item included in class; how to use it, how to fix it, and what to do if something falls into the water. You will also learn how to demonstrate a good and safe lifting and carrying technique, where the legs and not the back, are stressed incl. consideration of permanently mounted fins on the board.
-
Safety
One of the big differences from teaching on stable grounds is the fact that you are moving class to the water. Safety is important for both you and the participants, and hence this is an important topic during the training. You need to be able to know how to safely enter in and out of the water, how to make sure the weather is safe, what to look out for and analyse the teaching area to plan for a safe and comfortable class for everyone, how to maneuvre the SUP the safest way in different conditions, how to safe someone if they fall into the water etc.
-
SUP yoga teaching methods
Yoga on water differs from the stable studio floor as the ground is imbalanced. This requires for some adjustments to your teaching methods to make sure you help the students adapt and align for the best possible balance and experience. During the training, you will learn how do adapt your teaching methods to tailor fun and rewarding classes on the water. This includes how to sequence a SUP yoga lesson and how to modify different poses according to the level of your students.
Your instructor
The training is quick, efficient and full of high quality learning, with both theoretical and practical hours, in and out of the water!
Your instructor will be Emely Freja, entrepreneur and owner of www.oceansoul.dk, 500RYT yoga teacher, 2x Danish Kitesurfing Champion, 2 x Turkish Kitesurfing Champion, internationally certified Kitesurfing Instructor, and SUP instructor educated by Dansk Sejlunion. She has an extensive record of experience under her wings, with yoga classes, retreats and kitesurfing taught both nationally and internationally. Further, she has worked for eight years as a coast lifeguard. As you might tell – you will be in competent hands, learning theory and practice from the best of the best!

Requirements
In order to participate in the training and get your certificate, you must fulfill the following requirements: Prior SUP experience is not a requirement- but it’s a plus for your learning if you’ve tried it at least once before. You must be able to swim 200m. You must be okay with life on water, i.e. getting water in your face and eyes, and potentially getting your head under water. Prior yoga teacher certification (min. 200H) You must participate during all training hours and make the required homework. You must plan for at least 3 hours of self-practice on top of the 10 ‘classroom’ hours. You will not have to bring any equipment. The only thing we recommend is for you to keep a wetsuit handy in case the early June weather turns out chilly.
About the studio
In the heart of our yoga studio, we honor yoga’s traditional principles of acceptance, compassion, non-judgment, and non-violence, serving as the foundation for our inclusive community. You’ll quickly find that yum vibes a bit like being on vacation. There’s an energetic vibe in the café, combined with a serene and calming yoga studio atmosphere. Outdoor living and indoor coziness, an international community and lots of yum stuff happening all the time! yum isn’t just a place to exercise; it’s a diverse and connected community that celebrates individuality and authenticity. We don’t strive for perfection or rigid rules; our aim is harmony, much like a tree’s branches swaying with the wind while remaining rooted. Life isn’t always a perfectly aligned tree pose though; it’s messy, spontaneous, and filled with indulgent moments, which is why we’ve created the lively social hub of the yum café next door. We hope you will join us and take part of some lovely yoga at yum’s Bali-Scandinavian surroundings with an ocean view.
About the cafe
In the café, you can enjoy some me-time or we-time as you indulge in tasty and – mostly – organic food and drinks! We’ve aimed at a plant-based menu, making space for both the nutritious and the delicious! Most items on the menu card is home made. So, whether you’re a coffee’n’cardamom bun kind of person or you’re more into a green, healthy yoga hulk smoothie with spinach and ginger – we got you covered!
